The case is heavily publicized because 1) many woman relate to a lack of postpartum support in this country and 2) the not guilty by reason of insanity plea which hinges on a 18 minute psychotic break resulting in three murders and is inconsistent with current medical understanding of postpartum psychosis.

The question is whether they’ll be able to offset the blame onto the medical establishment and answer seems to be yes, as it seems several of the medical professionals involved in her case may be successfully sued for malpractice.

Within the medical community the case has already changed the practice of many clinicians relating to post partum psychiatric care unfortunately being less likely to be accepted by a practice (and referred to often scarcely available specialized centers) or the threshold to institutionalize patients against their will is now lower given the concern that they may be a danger to their community and that any criminal act theyay engage in could be later framed on their treatment team.

It’s past threshold now at 1.9 and falling quickly.

As a millenial brown dude I can definitely see this happening. Basically all the feedback I got growing up was that white (and some Asian) people cannot handle the spice in our food which is why it was often made fun of (along with Mexican food). A lot has changed since then but there is an innate reflex to tell white and some East Asian friends and colleagues to be careful with it and it’s hard to break. No one wants to see another person get ill from their food simply because their digestive tract is not accustomed to it.

It’s very similar to the reflex that makes me stop my toddler from eating anything with spice but then she actually likes it and I’m like oh yeah, that tracks, you’re a mini version of me 😆.

I will say that palates universally have broadened in the past few decades. When I was growing up it wasn’t uncommon to see people (even grown adults) physically recoil, make faces or pinch their noses in the presence of Indian food and a lot of folks have really stepped up their game since then.

That’s because sex was perceived specifically through a lens of power dynamics in that culture, which was not the case in several Eastern cultures at the time.

In hindsight this has to be a far right psy op. It was a year after Trump was elected and they definitely wanted to see an end to both the BLM and MeToo movements.

The real answer is that the right side of the political spectrum has lost many of the major conflicts in recent history (civil war, ww2, segregation) - though this is absolutely not true globally. Theres no way to know for sure but we may perceive history very differently if those conflicts had different outcomes. Ultimately, history is written by the victors.

By winning these conflicts “liberals” have been able to shape reality according to their vision but the problem is they’re so used to winning now that they’re not (ideological) battle ready and some conservatives are just itching for some big wins and the oppurtunity to drag us all back into the stone age.

Saying ‘It will just negatively impact your credit score’ like it’s nothing in a capitalist nation where nearly all financial trust is based on how effectively you pay back your creditors is a pretty wild take.

Especially when a car and home are the bare minimum for most people to be able to function in the US (public transport is laughable anywhere outside a metropolis) and the average person isn’t getting either without a loan.

I wouldn’t be so quick to ignore medical debt. The average retired couple spends $350000 on medical expenses in the US. The system is a lot more dysfunctional than you make it out to be.
