Roku tvs are currently 37% of the American market according to numbers I found through a quick search. Last I heard LG, Amazon/Fire, and Samsung also required an internet connection/account for setup. Only Google TVs from my research (regardless of brand) have a dumb tv option at this time.
I wouldn’t call that an edge case.
I was thinking similarly about the amount of medical equipment I have seen where something like this was done because it shipped with a right angle WiFi adapter that covered the upper ports or something like that and changing the port was easier than recertification with a different dongle.
I can’t not read this in SF Debris’ crazy Janeway voice.
Some modern TVs, like Rokus, actually won’t run without the internet connection.
I do miss being able to change the resolution though…

Okay but that’s still better than the 4 years I got out of my most recent LG before it got the blue death that is not repairable. Not to mention that I have only ever had one CRT die on me in my life and still have 2 in the garage.

In the mean time I have been unemployed for 20 months and I have 15 years of experience. Nobody is getting hired right now. It’s nuts.

AMD’s version is called Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT). But just about everyone, even most motherboard firmware that I have seen, calls it hyperthreading still.
