This is my guess too. I personally knew of some examples dating back to the 70s using it, but apparently ‘coolness’ as a term has been around since at least the 15th century.

Cool as a slang term in modern usage dates back to the late 1920s. It’s been a sustained century of constant usage

I don’t think Cool is even slang anymore. It’s just a descriptive word
