I push those buttons all the time on my motorcycle. Floor sensors don’t pick up my bike sitting at a light if no ones behind me. So I push the crosswalk buttons so I get a turn.
Are you talking about the induction loops, where you can see lines cut in the street near the stop line? Where I live they work fine for bicycles. There are a few intersections without them where I need to hit the pedestrian button though.

You can get magnets for the bottom of your bike which help trigger the sensor btw.

Where I’m at you just run the light after 2 cycles or some amount of time I can’t remember, as in that’s encoded in law.
I hate those… sometimes i try to rest on top of them but nah… not enough metal.
