Fully agree. I think that Steam should make it a platform requirement that external launchers cannot be used on the platform.

It makes zero sense for me to hit play just to have a third party launcher open, and I have to hit play in that third party launcher as well. and I have to hit play in that third party launcher as well. At that point, I’m better off just buying it through the third party launcher.

The whole third-party launcher update process is also obnoxious… Every gatcha game does it. what’s the point of using steam at that point

Lets be real, while many do care, it isn’t going to be a “I need to leave the platform” level care.

Furthermore, the people impacted by it, may also not actually be in the majority either. For example they are doing similar to how discord is doing their age verification, where they are using existing metrics to infer your age without hard requiring it. Reddit has stated that said metrics include account age, email provider and topics you navigate.

Unless they have a super heavy handed way of doing this, I doubt anything super meaningful like another mass exodus like how the API issue was will happen.

Even if deported, he has the money to live comfortably, he would likely either come back illegally anyway as a point, or move to another country and do his proceedings there. Him being deported wouldn’t remove his ties, or companies at all, as those don’t need US citizenship or anything. The only thing actually deporting him will do is but a blemish on him, and make a rich a-hole want to do everything he can to make the person who caused it regret it.

In the case of Musk, it would likely cause a massive political campaign fund for the either the direct opposing party or more realistically whoever runs for his party that the current administration does not advocate for.

The outcome is the same though, which is why I see no world where they actually try this.

I see no route where regardless of party who gets in in 2028 is going to keep any of the names either, like “Lake America” and “Gulf of America”, it’s such an insult to the rest of the world anyone running would decide against it and without any real opposition against tearing down the existing monuments made, I don’t see any real blockers.

This becomes very sticky and is intentionally labeled the way it is in the US explicitly because it would be too complicated to coordinate with aviation. That is unlikely to change anytime soon.

Property rights used to classify your land as anything from your ground all the way to the planets. This was re-defined when airplanes were created because it became obvious that reasonably you can’t have that style of legal claim, because it wouldn’t be possible for aviation without an extreme amount of micromanagement and that’s just not reasonable.

Instead, they redefined it to be generally, starting 500 feet above ground becomes public domain controlled by the FAA. This doesn’t mean that you can build a house 500 feet in the air because you’re still restricted by your local territory ordinances. For example, Bloomington Minnesota doesn’t allow more than 2 story(excluding basement) buildings without permit.

This was actually ruled based on a chicken farm back in the 1940’s(United States v. Causby), believe it or not. because the military flew a plane of 87 feet off the ground and it was causing the chickens to kill themselves. The courts at that point did away with the heavens to the sky concept(well, technically, they did in 1926, it just took until this case to have actual solid rules for it), which was that you owned anywhere from the land all the way up to the heavens. and instead added an invisible barrier that separated the land that you own to the sky. In that case, the government was found to be at fault because it was flying low enough that it was causing harm to the farmer in removing control of the farmer’s land.

Note, this doesn’t mean that drones are not allowed in that 500 foot zone, that is still in a territory by territory decision. The general understanding is that non-commercial drones need to be following privacy laws that are in place. So, while they may be allowed in your 500 foot zone, that doesn’t mean they’re allowed to be at your second story window filming you. They need to be not impacting your use of the land.

This is somewhat unrelated, and already mentioned later on, but I also wanted to add in that drones are considered aircraft by FAA standard, so I would not advocate taking matters into your own hand, period, and trying to take them down, via traps, firing at them any type of damage that could potentially cause the issue on your land. Not only would it be highly likely that you would be needing to pay restitution for destroying the drone, but it’s also fairly possible that you would face felony charges for it. You need to rely on the existing legal system in order to take care of it or else you put yourself up to the potential of being in the wrong. Report the drone to the FAA, report it to your local police for privacy invasion, but do not, under any circumstance, cause actual damage to the craft.

I have touched a bit, only a handful of times to see if its better and I havent paid for a release since they tend to give games pit for free from time to time. It’s almost entirely just playing single player because online is just intolerable now.

Yeah, it sounds like it’s much better implemented there. I’ve always found it stupid that in today’s age of everything being digital, that it could take more than a day for money to go from point A to point B, especially since it’s not like trucks are being loaded with gold or money or anything like that, its all centrally managed anyway, from what I understand, the us attempted to start a system back in 2023 that would allow for real-time transfers of small denominations, when they got a scare that blockchain was gaining traction, but I don’t think it ever went anywhere.

Bank accounts are very different in the states, through, while a good portion of the people here do have bank accounts. There are a handful that just never open one. They exclusively cash their checks at a store like Walmart or something like that that handles check services (which have a fee to do). ACH is generally free as long as it’s a deposit, wire transfer out is sometimes fee’d and the same with wire transfer in. And some banks don’t easily show your routing or your account number in order to be able to set up a transfer. Like I have four banks myself and of those four banks, one of them I have to call to get that information. One fees me on wire out with no fee on deposit, a one restricts how much I can wire out at a time (I think it’s 300 daily) and the last one I have no issues. Only 2 of them show the info needed for it right in the app. I agree that 90% of the time. I would much rather have a wire transfer, but it can be a hassle at times.

I’m not sure where you are located but, in the US it’s those 3 pieces of information as well. I think checks in the case of validity and legal situations make a lot more sense. Not everyone will have that information at hand, nor do they have banks that are willing to allow them or charge a fee for them. It’s also 2 pieces of information more than a cashiers check would require, and discloses where the destination of the funds is going to anyone involved which includes both the handler and the person who is giving you money, where with a cashiers check you can deposit or cash those most anywhere that manages checks, be it your bank, an opposing bank, walmart etc. It also helps with the actual paper trail as you have a physical piece of paper confirming you are going to be receiving the amount, where a wire is fully digital and if something messed up along the way, it can take weeks to resolve the issue. You can’t screw a cashiers check up without really trying, it’s weighted against the bank itself instead of the person or entity that is owing the money, which means it can’t bounce(like normal checks can), and it only needs your name which, the court and the payer should already know, where a wire transfer can be screwed up by a simple typo of the numbers.

The processing speeds are also night and day. You mentioned next day but, that is likely because because your bank is doing you a favor with it. A wire transfer can take up to 5-7 business days to actually transfer, in some cases it can even take up to a couple weeks. Cashier checks are handled similar to government checks and are legally mandated (at least in the US) to be cleared next day. Wire transfers to my knowledge do not have this obligation.

In this case, it would actually be beneficiary to use checks because they can do it via cashier check to guarantee that it’s going to deposit and also it makes the paper trail to help protect against the I wasn’t paid or this person never got the money claim.

Not that I don’t believe that checks are not ancient outdated technology as well, but I do agree there are some rare occasions where it makes more sense to use a check versus having to deal with a wire transfer or paying in physical denomination.

All depends if they are going to still sit on the hypothetical moral throne again. Thats why nothing gets done with the party, they go off a “well that happened but we can’t stoop to their level” style policy, so with every step forward its 15 steps back.

Personally I hope they do hard focus it but, I also hope it doesn’t become the running headline for their next cycle they get in, as they need to fix the fundamental issues with the system that allowed this first since a trial like that prosecution will easily last more than the length of a single term.

The definition of treason would need to be redefined unfortunately. I agree but, due to these same issues they deliberately defined what treason is in the constitution and it requires an act of war or assisting/aiding a known enemy to the country. It’s defined as an “only” which prevents it from being expanded.

This was intentional as they didn’t want treason to be used like how it did with Britain where they would use treason as a reason to silence dissidents, but it causes anything that uses treason as a crime to have a really high bar that is unlikely to ever actually be met. There’s still argument that trump hasen’t committed treason, and that’s with his direct ties and friendships with russia.

A good start would be citizens who are in states with recall clauses starting to enact them. granted it would only help 12 of the states as the rest lack a framework for it but, the majority of the states who have the recall process, also have legislators that refuse to do anything about it.

Hard disagree here. It’s a slippery slope. If we had that attitude for everything he did we would have full dictatorship already. He’s already mentioned he wants a third term, if we applied that ideology of “oh well its easier/cheaper to just let him do it” then this could end up real scary real fast for the US.
