That’s pretty bizarre.
And I mean about not liking chocolate, not the microwave thing.

You mean I’m not the only one who doesn’t like to be far from chocolate?

Not exactly news that words often change meanings over time.

It’s just people justifying their beliefs. As I said to someone else, I worked for decades with extremely smart people. A pretty good percentage of atheists, but lots of people who also believed whatever religion they were raised in. All of them made their peace with being scientists and being religious, one way or another.

trying to prove the existence of God
Which he couldn’t/didn’t do, giving credence to my position that you don’t come to belief in god through logic.
Look, I spent 40 years working with literal rocket scientists, I understand that smart people can be religious. Literally zero of them were raised without religion and came to it because of logical deduction. Smart people will either try to justify things they were raised to believe, or they’ll just say that their religious beliefs come from a faith that isn’t tied to logic. But rocket scientists who were raised Hindu will do the same with their pantheon as Christians do with their god.

I knew a guy years ago who worked security at Vendenberg AFB. He said on cold nights, when they’d do the rounds, they’d linger for a bit in front of the microwave transmission tower dishes to warm up. Always gave me the willies.

I didn’t say it made him dumb, I implied that faith doesn’t flow from logic. Plus it’s a little problematic to say that our great minds were people of faith when, for much of our history, not being a person of faith could mean death. But it’s true, there were folks like Thomas Aquinas who were brilliant and more than average religious.

Certainly can’t disagree with him there

I’d say he must be very logical except, you know…

I have not. I was raised catholic and consumed a lot of catholic stuff in my early years. I’m an atheist now and just can’t get interested in any of it.

I like the idea of a technologically literate pope.

When I was young, me and some friends read there were, I think, 131 regular episodes of the original Twilight Zone, so we sat around trying to name them all.

A lot of people think that because of posts like this, but it’s not true. Here’s the results of an exit poll from the 2024 election, posted by the BBC:

65+ (boomers) were basically tied. 30-44 were one percent more for Harris.

The thing is, the percentage of boomers who voted Republican is only d slightly higher than the percentage who voted Democrat. And the percentage of younger voters who voted Democrat is only slightly higher than those who voted Republican. This narrative that boomers are all a bunch of right wing conservatives is bullshit.

At this point in my life, I can’t imagine saying no to a back rub.
Yeah, my first apartment was 750 square feet and I thought it was great. Got married, had kids, upgraded houses a couple times. I’m old now, and my wife left a little over a year ago. I’m in a condo that’s 1375 with just my cat. I was worried that it was going to feel cramped after being in a big, two story house, but it doesn’t at all. It’s really bigger than I need, but I have a guest room in case any of the kids want to stay over or my wife comes to visit, and I have an office for my desk and computer. I know I could have been fine with smaller, but this feels great, honestly.
