I am just curious about people’s taste here, since this community looks sane compared to other “loony-toons” gaming subs or forums online.
You don’t need to explain yourself just name them.
Thanks

Beat hazard
Rez
Jet grind radio
Auditorium by Cipher Prime.
Unique list
It is intentionally music based. Dj max has been a main stay in my life for the better part of 20 years, ever since I first found it on the PSP. The current iteration has a massive library of songs from collaborations to every single version I used to play on the bus.
Beat hazard is asteroids with enemy spawns and weapons power based on the music track being played. I’ve been building quite a library of tracks for a very long time, so I get to work through albums. I’m very much stuck attempting to beat Infected Mushrooms “Vicious Delicious”.
Rez was a game I adored on the dreamcast, and has become a full experience with the pcvr release Rez:Infinite. I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes older techno and shmups.
Jet grind radio, future, and the spiritual successor bomb rush cyber funk have each had such amazing soundtracks and intentionally goofy over the top police presence that it’s hard for me not to love. The newest one misses the mark a bit for me, but that soundtrack was made with all the original love.
And auditorium had a demo out on browser a long while back, and it fills the puzzle vibe with much more thoughtful jams than my other options to put on here. I was thinking either Lumines or tetris effect, but at the end of the day I need to give a little love to my Philly game devs.
Thanks for detailed information, very interesting to know.
do you produce or create music or its just a hobby of gaming
Just a hobby of gaming. I like being exposed to many different types of music, and the incredibly varied track list of DJ max is very much why I put it at the top of the list. It is also why beat hazard works so well for me, I have all different types of music on my pc, allowing for each play session to have a very different vibe, if I choose for it to.
Beat Hazard is an unusual pull but I respect it. That game does very well with elaborate power metal (stuff like Rhapsody of Fire or Amon Amarth)
Asteroids has always been a game I’ve enjoyed, beat hazard (1, 2, and especially 3) is asteroids and so much more. It heavily depends on your music library and tastes as to how the game plays, so each person’s experience will be different.
What does 3 bring to the table that sets it apart so much? I played a bunch of the first one but only dabbled in 2 then fell away into other games.
The music universe that’s still being developed a bit. It adds just a bit of some rpg elements to what’s basically a mindless audio/visual experience. The universe adds enough of a touch to keep me engaged on trying to take over systems and one up myself on them.
Otherwise, it’s just a more polished experience. The models are 3D, the bosses feel a bit more menacing, and there’s some new stuff to keep my interest beyond just experiencing my music while enjoying explosions and flashing lights.
That being said, it’s not a game I pick up daily to play. The visuals are overwhelming, especially on higher difficulties and my eyes aren’t getting any younger.
