The tragedy of the commons is the idea that when a resource is shared and can benefit the individual at a cost to the community, it is rational for the individual to overuse the resource, even though this collectively leads to the depletion of the resource for everyone
Except it’s not rational.
Countries with socialized health care systems do have abusers, but they are a tiny minority of the population, because most people don’t want to spend their life in hospitals.
Roads are socialized everywhere but you don’t see many people just driving around to make sure they get their “fair share” of road using/wearing out of their taxes.
Depending what we talk about, overusing resources does not translate in increased comfort or quality of life.
