The first step to learn a new language is to break your tongue: listen and struggle to repeat. Don’t use somebody elses strugglings in your own language for that, it’s merely a hint of vocal chains they are unused to. You have to stumble yourself the opposite way.
Might work for relatively similar languages that already share a lot of words via latin, greek or loanwords, but good luck getting anywhere with east-asian or african languages like that.

I’m not fluent in second language or anything, but I think I have learned the most when immersed, like I visited the Philippines for a month and started to pick up some Tagalog. Or during two years of grad school, I had a lot of Nepali friends and slowly started to understand more Neplai words and phrases
