    These images always seem a little weird to me. Is the outer layer of bone in the cheeks and jaw carved away to show the teeth, or does it just grow over at some point later in life? Because there are no giant gaps in a normal adult skull.

      Looking at the last image it seems like the outer layer has been removed to show the teeth inside

      Yes, the outer layer is removed. Look at the ABC-pictures above; the left side is untouched, showing how it normally looks.
