“The announcement came a day after Walmart reported quarterly results that included the slowest growth in U.S. comparable sales in more than six years…”

This is why they’re enabling it. They want to make it as frictionless as possible to spend money.

It’s more likely that their custom payment option isn’t hitting targets. They invested a lot into something that is more complicated process compared to tap to pay. Its the sort of system that only exists because some clueless executive was pushing it. Writing a check would be faster.

They wanted to push people onto their shitty app. They wanted people to link their bank details directly to pay so they could farm all that juicy consumer data.

Linking a bank isn’t about consumer data. It’s about cutting out all the parment fees

Credit cards are expensive to accept. If you’re using an Amex through Apple Pay, it’s around 5% because of how many layers are taking a cut

Walmart’s margins would about double without having to pay payment provider fees, which they don’t have to pay with direct withdrawal

This is like if someone wrote a news article about Donald Trump petting a dog. Good they did the thing, but also fuck every last god damn thing about them.

15 years late. Y’all would’ve had my money back then too, but these days I don’t fuck with the ‘mart.

Some Americans do. I haven’t seen a place that accepts checks in a while though, especially not a Walmart
