Funny enough… dinosaurs weren’t lizards, either. Most had feathers.

Not usually. Last trip I took, which was to Seattle, the Homewood Suites extended stay was about 80 bucks less per day.

I agree with baking them all in. Makes it easy for the customer to see the real price.

You’ve not been to many hotels, especially recently. Most have a small kitchenette these days, and extended stay suites have a small, full kitchen.

See, none of these would likely be an issue, if there wasn’t also an additional $300 cleaning fee attached.
Would I do the dishes, even, if I knew there was a $300 cleaning fee? Nope. Same with stripping the beds. Have the cleaner that is supposed to come through after each turnover, and handle it. That’s what that cleaning fee is for, isn’t it?
Regardless, I don’t care about the parasites having to figure out how to solve the issue. I’ll sleep just fine. Is it more expensive because it’s some tucked away cabin? Yep. But, like anyone who chooses to operated a business in such a location, that’s a problem for them to solve, and I, again, do not care about their business problems.

That sounds like a problem for the investor to solve. They certainly CAN have housekeeping coming daily, if the investor chooses to do so.

Clearly then we are talking about different things.
Probably. I’m talking about the actual, current landscape of AirBnB, not “What I envision it should be”.
There’s onsie-twosie listings like what used to be there, of course. The vast majority, however, are not. They are just investment properties. Running essentially a hotel, without the regulations covering hotels.
If it’s a discussion about airbnb in particular I think the only acceptable thing at this point is to not use it.
Agreed. I do feel for the people who are still trying to use it as a “i’m out for the month, let me rent my space out” or “I have a spare bedroom”, and hope something crops up like a housing coop or something.

The thing is, the vast majority of Air BnB listings are not just someone looking for a temp roommate. They are investment properties, operated like hotels, without the amenities of hotels, but with all the non-personal service of hotels.
When I stay at a hotel, I don’t have to clean the room, strip the sheets, and do laundry. Housekeeping does all of that.
The same applies to Air BnBs now, and the hosts have nobody to blame but themselves.
And it’s correct, hosts don’t have to charge a cleaning fee. Most do, and come with a chorebook that if you don’t do them, they charge you even more. On top of the 3x what it would cost to stay in a hotel.
So yeah, if you’re charging $300 as a cleaning fee, I’ll be damned if I’m cleaning the unit myself.

I do not see the absurdity of buying a cheap car, and complaining about having to pay a monthly cleaning fee on the car…

There’s still alternatives, if you don’t like Air BnB. Self managing your rentals is still there. Of course, instead of paying Air BnB you need to pay a marketer, probably the local tourism board, etc etc.
I get it, the service went down hill, though, for the people trying to just let out a room while they are away for a week. But the vast majority of Air BnB listings are not that, anymore.

Do you charge your friends for their stay? Do you charge your friends a cleaning fee, while still expecting all of that?

Cleaning up after staying in someone else’s home is just obvious common decency.
The thing is? Most AirBnB listings aren’t someone’s home. They are just an investment property.

Now, most Air Bnbs don’t allow you to have a bunch of friends to get trashed over a weekend… It’s in the listing rules.

I dunno… I’ve never had an issue with my Hyundai, and was never told I had to keep it clean, while being charged a cleaning fee each month…

I don’t even understand why people use Airbnb.
So, in the long long ago, in the before time, Airbnb was a way to rent out your apartment or home for a week, while you were on vacation, or to rent out a spare room with minimal headaches. In fact, after Craigslist more or less died, it was THE way to do it.
Over time, this changed.

They are called “Bed and Breakfasts” or “Boarding houses”.
I’m not trying to be shitty here. Bed and Breakfasts existed alongside boarding houses for a good long time before AirBnB.
The problem is AirBnB generally doesn’t have these listings anymore. The incentives made it into a “Buy a home cheap, rent on AirBnB for exorbitant prices”.

Pretty much every vacation in my life that I have been on I have had to do these things.
You have?
I go on vacation, and the places I stay have housekeeping services do all of that.
fair enough.
