“Stop fighting women for pointing out how shitty rape culture is and start working with us” certainly felt exclusionary. Think it’s about time I touched some grass. Whether or not you get a chance to do the same, I hope you find something to enjoy today. Happy posting.

I mean… It absolutely is? Those very real and very fucked up events actually happened, and spinning ‘literary devices’ around them where the noble right-minded hero dunks on some despicable idiot obscures and distracts from that brutal human reality. Give the 13y/os who lack the experience to take these ‘literary devices’ at anything other than face value a chance to exist as something besides the idiotically evil, inhuman, and faceless “all men” they’re portrayed as in this kind of propaganda and there’s a much better chance they’ll take it. I would go as far as saying content like this, whether intentionally or not, serves to reinforce the rape culture it criticizes on its face.

On a more personal level, it’s disappointing to have written all that for you to dismiss in under a minute. Doesn’t really seem like enough time to read it, much less put any thought into responding. I am not at all interested in fighting a culture war, if you aren’t willing to respond to me then this isn’t really a conversation

I think that ‘literary devices’ like this are, if well intentioned in the first place, counterproductive. Sharing our experiences and empathizing with one another brings us together and allows for healing and growth. Artificially intensified narratives serve to divide, isolate, and perpetuate a culture war serving only the elite. Even when well intentioned they’re crafted for maximum impact and lack the core of humanity required for genuine connection. They outshine and obfuscate less superficially impactful but more heartfelt attempts to relate, keep us angry and afraid, and interfere with real progress. They’re modern mass media, a far cry from the organic engagement people fled major platforms to seek here. Angry mobs have formed, and we’ve both been downvoted in the last 10 minutes (wasn’t me). I don’t think that’s what anyone wants besides the chronically online addicted to intensity of experience itself. If it ever becomes the default here, if people stop calling it out, this place will have become just another reddit and hopefully someone will have told me about the next place where actual humans can go to share their thoughts and feelings.

I’m glad to hear that. I was most encouraged by the amount of people calling this out as artificially inflammatory engagement bait though, many of who were a lot more articulate and verbose than myself. Do you think the conversation in the twitter screenshot actually happened?

  • My friend, your emoji selection says you think this is a gotcha but yes. Once giving becomes the core of an ideology rather than a simple practice even that is corruptible, perverse, and a justification for all kinds of inhuman behavior. Pull up the “effective altruism” roster sometime, you’ll find a who’s who of self important and deeply entitled billionaires with neither of our best interests at heart. I will double down on “no good ists or isms” and go on to say that collectively ideology has been the single most destructive force in human history. See also the anarchists too caught up in demonstrating who’s more of a rebel to do the dishes, communists too busy discussing theory to build community, atheists entirely consumed by the absence of a god, and capitalists too busy extracting wealth to appreciate it. Every ideology that has ever been formulated fuckin sucks, and every principle worth living by is degraded by the attempt to build one around it

  • For anyone reading, this guy is a great example of why not to serve in a military. In case your normal human aversion to hierarchy and violence isn’t enough. The abuse they put you through to shape you into something willing to kill for them (and the killing etc itself of course) has lifelong consequences.

To “redditmodssucks”, you find what you look for and there’s a lot that makes life worth living. Always for love, never from fear. I hope you find some peace and maybe even a little joy. Hope is real, good luck out there.

  • It’s more like I have to buy things so I can build/fix other things, and tbh kinda the main input I still require from “the system”. Belts, bearings, seals, gaskets, relays, control boards, pumps, props, etc. Recent outboard motor refurb is a great example: a new one would be $5-8k, I spent ~$300 doing rings and bearings, new impeller, new seals everywhere, new zincs, new prop, fresh paint, new spark plugs. Still had to do a lot of shopping! Arguably more than the high roller who just buys a new motor, that’s a low double digit number of parts vs one big thing

Anyways it wasn’t meant as an argument or some kind of rhetorical gotcha, more a long shot at making a new friend and not having to shop anymore lol. People have a lot of different ideas of fun, mine’s closer to tearing something apart and seeing how it works than trying not to get ripped off while meeting material needs

  • Impotent as in helpless against our oppressors, I’m sure you’re really good at sex :p

This really is one of the calmer, better reasoned takes I’ve encountered online recently, thanks for sharing it. There’s something I’d like to expand on more than debate though. Really more about my own fixation on that propaganda than anything. Even the oligarchy and obvious corruption are themselves symptoms of the worship of wealth that drives our civilization. Even if every decision maker were replaced with a benevolent humanist the systems we’ve built exist to make number go up, not quality of life. Our morality, our cultural values, our very perception is constructed around the idea of more being better and the inevitability of the process of coercive extraction through which we’re all meant to compete in consolidating our hoards at one another’s expense. We’re strung out and impotent (yes, all of us) and addicted to intensity of experience itself. Red team/blue team were arbitrary divisions to capture tribal identity long before MAGA or even KKK coalesced as focal points, and I don’t think it’s wise to approach them as a root cause or core issue. The “MAGA” that wants you dead is a freakish abberation amplified and presented to you because of the utility that has to the status quo. It’s an essentially nonexistent bogeyman, a narrative counterpoint to the transwoman scheming to make your kids gay. A division, an escalation, a distraction. KKK was likewise not an organic groundswell of hatred but carefully orchestrated political theater. I highly recommend looking into their history, these things are often much clearer from a distance. We are all victims of propaganda, like Garfield tshirt says “you are not immune”. Even the miserable billionaires with every material luxury and still no contentment. Especially them, in a sense. They’re certainly the least connected to humanity and most thoroughly processed of us. I spend a lot of time on the street and can promise 1/3 of the country does not want you dead. The vast majority of us all want the same thing, and it’s lot more like a hug and a sandwich despite all efforts to the contrary.

I kinda lost whatever point I may have been trying to make, but thanks for the opportunity to ramble. Going to cut it off here before I start going on about AI as a way for capital to replicate human output convincingly enough to directly manufacture consent, and the consequences of atomization and the escalation between engaging in more and more granular subcultures on heavily monitored platforms and just each engaging with the machine directly, and 9/11 being used to establish a near-omniscient surveillance apparatus and covid being used to force its adoption, and how… I need to touch grass.
