I bet that’s the email specification. That’s probably an email address parser.

Not sure I would tie my identity to my neuron DNA, tooth enamel, and eye lens crystallines. Definitely agree with you that we are living ships of Theseus. I’m pretty sure there’s no natural mechanism to replace those parts because it’s really hard, and we work “well enough” without being able to.
But what about the atoms/molecules that make up those neurons? Do they last a lifetime?
“In the face of overwhelming science, it’s impossible to think that the EPA could develop a contradictory finding that would stand up in court,” said David Doniger, a climate expert at the Natural Resources Defense Council
Expect the Trump administration to follow their current winning strategy: consistently lose in lower courts, appeal every ruling until it gets to the Supreme Court, Supreme Court makes up some new bullshit from an intentional misreading of history and hands Trump a victory.
An interview with a Senate candidate is pretty clearly exactly what the framers had in mind for the first amendment. I can’t think of a more on-the-nose situation of government action that would be more applicable to the first amendment. Congress passed a law to create the FCC.
Congress shall make no law […] abridging the freedom […] of the press
Can’t really get more clearcut than that.
May be OS specific. I tried to re-lock the bootloader with LineageOS on my Fairphone 6+, and it failed with an error that the data was corrupted. It was my first time loading a custom ROM in probably 15+ years, so it definitely could have been user error, but not a guaranteed feature either way.
"The Constitution does not provide redress for every governmental wrongdoing,” Engelhardt said.
Why the eff not?! How are people supposed to get redress for government wrongdoing then? Is he saying there is a nonzero amount of wrongdoing the public is just supposed to accept from their government?
FOSS has had a funding problem forever, and AI has made it exponentially worse by increasing the review and maintenance burden on volunteer maintainers and the infrastructure burden with scraping and agentic build workflows. The projects that are surviving best are the ones that have a funding source, which is typically businesses that financially benefit from the software (there are of course exceptions).
When the AI bubble pops, companies are going to be pulling back on all spending, so I expect donations to FOSS projects/foundations to get tight. The ones that will still be spending are the ones that will still have money to spend, and I don’t expect diverse views on AI to be distributed equally across those survivors.
You joke, but they have built experimental Debian builds on at least one non-Linux kernel. I don’t know how far an AI split in the FOSS community will go, but there are more options than you would think. And when the bubble pops, it’s more likely the people that still have money after will be the ones not in the AI camp.
Well specifically it melts at a lower temperature because it’s mixed with milk. The cheese part doesn’t separate from the milk due to the additive, which is called an emulsifier. That also might sound artificial, but it’s just the name for things that keep fats from separating from water and water-soluable foods. For example egg white is another emulsifier, and it’s used in making mayonnaise.
Also 100% agree with American cheese being real cheese. It’s not the best in every place you would want cheese, but that’s true of any cheese. I don’t want blue cheese on my nachos, and I don’t want American cheese in my salads. But it’s great on meat, and it’s a good complement to a lot of warm foods.
Given the news of multiple kids killing themselves because of ChatGPT, my first interpretation of this headline was that that was Altman’s response to the families of those kids. It doesn’t sound out of character for him. I’m glad my first intuition was wrong and reality was just stupidity, but I have to think it’s just a matter of time…
What exactly is a “lot date” here and why are they 6-8 months in the future?
