As you yourself point out, NBC is not automatically trustworthy, but the choice of domain is not the reason why. The billionaire and corporate influence, combined with clickbait journalism is why.
Someone not trusting NBC is fine. Someone choosing to believe that it’s fake news just because it’s mainstream media when it refers to verifiabke facts and a mainstream personality is a failure of our society to adapt to the online world. A failure of education and a failure of media control and regulation.
I think conning voters is just as relevant and likely to cause problems as dodgy meat. I can avoid meat products. I can’t stop politicians doing shady stuff if we don’t all pay attention together.
I don’t think they’re bad, so much as bland. There is no real jeopardy, no real emotional connection. It’s a sequence of flashy vignettes held together by a loose plot device.
This has been the case for blockbusters and action movies for decades. Superhero movies have just taken the fun out of the action sequences and made them an empty spectacle.

The best thing about open source is that a huge new entrant into the system only adds to the system. China will undoubtedly make changes but others can choose to implement or not. Some may be good for all. Some may suit Chinese users only. Some may suit government only. Some may suit Chinese government only. Whatever, it’s options and novel methods.
And the more that do this globally, the more independence and options we all have.
