IMO we are what we incentivize and right now we’re incentivizing a low-trust society which “requires” a nanny state to remediate thanks to the anxiety ##% of the populace feels thanks to the constant fear mongering used to induce FOMO. But I don’t know why people don’t understand that the distribution, maintenance, and marketing of things is not free. We’re not entitled to other people’s time just because the tools they’ve used are based on FOSS. If you don’t think those things are worth money then you’re free to fork and do it yourself, that’s the beauty of FOSS.
