  • It’s not your place to police other drivers and their behavior. Nor is it mine. Slowing down if someone is tailgating pisses everyone off, and going under the speed limit can be just as dangerous as going over. It’s a really easy way to cause a crash.

Drive predictably. If that means going the exact speed limit, fine. But far too often I am on the road with people who think going 25mph in a 45mph on a two lane road is safer.

  • I was reading a comment in a post today that was about becoming a regular at places was how to build community. The comment was from a disabled and moderately attractive (direct quote from the commenter) woman who said she avoided becoming a regular because people felt that they could take advantage of her if they knew her routine.

And it just made me sad. Nobody should have to go through that. Nobody should feel ostracized because they are afraid someone will abuse them.

I had, and for the most part still do, agree that it’s generally good to become a regular at a place. But I hadn’t thought of it from that woman’s perspective before and I respect and understand her decision.

  • I get this. I have bowls that I don’t like, but also I haven’t seen any that I do seriously like enough to buy. In the grand scheme of things, it’s a cheap way to make the spouse happy. Especially if they moved in and your already had the bowls. It lets them put their touch on their home.

A lot of things I have are functional, but never truly what I wanted. Maybe the size is just a bit off for how much I eat, or the way the bowl is shaped makes it slosh too much.

I think I have 3 or 4 sets of bowls now. Though I don’t think I’ve paid for any. Some were left by the previous owner, others were a gift bought super cheap/used and were from the Disneyland hotel (I worked at Disney and we got access to buy what the company used in their restaurant for like $0.50/bowl), and another set my fiance brought when she moved in.

Otherwise I like to shop estate sales, garage sales, and thrift stores. I almost bought a set of retro 1950s bowls from a neighbors garage sale last month. Decided I didn’t need another set though.

  • Same. Most cars I’ve pushed have been random strangers.

Ive also stopped and helped fix cars on the side of the road. I’ve got a WRX, and driving to work one day I saw another WRX broken down. Maybe a teenager or early 20s. Only a little younger than me at that point. His radiator hose had been rubbing against a belt after some mod. He said his mechanic couldn’t figure it out.

I took him to get a new hose. Showed him how to trim the edge of it to accommodate his mod, taught him to burp it, and sent him on his way.
