  • Its a reliable simple introduction that maintains the freedom of foss. People don’t care about the technicals as long as it just works.

Aside from pushing security vulnerabilities you mean? It’s nothing novel at all. We’ve had simple to install desktop linux distros for ages now. We’ve had dotfile collections for even longer. We’ve even had Arch install scripts and communities that put it all together. It’s not that people have bounced off of even the lowest barrier to entry, it’s that they only take notice when the youtuber tells them to.

Linus himself has called anyone universally opposing AI a troglodyte. The whole point of FOSS is that it grants people liberty over their software. The exact liberty that he is practising.

I’m exercising my liberty to call out low quality shit where I see it the same way Linus does. Linus also has a fairly low opinion of right-leaning politics and people. Does that also factor into this stupid anecdote?

Alright give me a breakdown of what is technically wrong. I’m open to a technical ncritique but that requires j actually provide one.

I think you’ll find plenty of examples in this thread of the lack of any technical merits to omarchy. No, I’m not doing an in-depth analysis of this shit only for you to find some other reason why it’s oh so useful and why the Linux community must be grateful to the racists for their exposure.

Elitist as fuck. Just cos we know how to use a command line doesn’t mean everyone does let alone even cares too. If their is nothing of value to preserve why you arguing against it?

Because people keep promoting it, defending the racist in charge and now pumping significant money into it for further marketing? It’s elitist to call people out when they’re talking about shit they barely know anything about? I’ve yet to see anyone actually spin a positive argument for omarchy that isn’t just completely out of touch or bootlicking a rich racist.

Why not let it prove itself valueless?

Because it is taking advantage of the good will, reputation and resources of the FOSS community and supporting horrible people, companies and ideologies in the process. It’s completely fair to call it out and raise awareness of who stands behind it.

The only reason you are seething over this is because it is providing value but simply in a way you don’t like.

    Lmao

  • He’s pushing actual excrement out of his ass. There is nothing desirable about having omarchy as a front entrance for desktop linux in the mainstream. This thin-ass AI generated veneer over arch linux has some people playing defense for this racist, like his political stance is the only thing wrong here. Fuck every wannabe tech influencer who pushed this garbage and all the noobs who keep acting like there’s anything of value to preserve by acting like it doesn’t matter that he’s a dipshit.

  • In almost all cases podman will work as a drop-in replacement. Problems usually arise from podman not being rootful by default, which does make a difference in most scenarios that involve volume mounts, exposing ports or other kinds of host resource access. You can run podman as root and nowadays even docker as rootless (though at that point you might be better off with podman).
