My best friend in elementary and early middle school had a non verbal brother. He did literally this. Among a few other related things.

If he liked you he hid your stuff and made it hard for you to leave.

If he wanted you to go he literally went and got your stuff and tried to give it to you.

If he REALLY wanted you gone. He went and gave it to his father.

    Absolutely sweet kid.

  • Normally I would be all for peer reviewed, but this is a fantastic example where that’s a stupid fucking metric.

Comic sans existed before efforts to formally make a dyslexic assistance font.

Comic sans has been casually recommended by many dyslexic communities and assistance programs because sans serif fonts are helpful and fonts with unique letter shapes are helpful.

Comic sans for many years was one of the only fonts that fit both categories. But by the time formal efforts went into place, comic sans quickly became unneeded in the space. There’s no reason at all TO do a formal study on it when it was never intended for the use case.

What studies there are in fonts from the time lean towards it being helpful for reading speed and understandability in children. But none of the studies of the error really focused on dyslexia so at best you can only infer based on adjacent findings it even then it’s loose at best.

Point is just because something doesn’t have formal research on it doesn’t make it not true and that years of casual helpfulness just vanish.

So get off the little petty wagon where you hate something just because it’s overused. Comic sans is a useful and fun little font that just gets over used.

  • It existed before dyslexia specific fonts existed and there was a dedicated effort to create them.

It became popular early on for dyslexia because it just happened to be really useful for dealing with the issue.

Compared to a specific font designed for dyslexic people it doesn’t hold a candle to it. But that doesn’t make it bad for the job either there’s a reason it got popular for that usage in the first place.

For like a good 10 years it was basically the only good option. Nowadays there are just much better ones and anyone still using comic sans I would hope it’s just using it for silly things.

  • Fluxer is chill. Honestly if you just want VoIP like you just plop down on a couch and talk to people. The only other thing I can think of that I could honestly recommend would still be mumble.

It’s simple because one job really well it’s easy to use and it doesn’t get in the way.

But if you want something that is a bit more discord like and relax then yeah fluxer is really about the only good option at the moment.

All the matrix b******* nonsense at people love to talk about is really good… As a replacement for like Microsoft teams…

  • When the people are beaten down they do tend to stop caring when the servants of those doing the beating are hurt.

It’s just the natural social pressure pushing back on people who willing join those that society sees as harmful.

We have a odd dissonance to forgive those who allow the abusers to abuse. Just because of a degree of separation and the fact for most of us we have to give up that moral line to make a living and survive.

We don’t want to blame our selfs so we don’t blame others. While also becoming apathetic to their suffering and thus not only our own but much of our peerage.

    It’s a problem.
