  • Freedom will always lead to more crime. If we want freedom, we will have to accept crime.

Also just because something is not visible, it does not mean it’s not there. China for example appears to have no homelessness, but that is simply untrue. It has a major problem, but makes sure the majority of people and tourists don’t get to see it. Singapur may not in fact have a drug problem, but if that is due to the radical approach of criminilisation or due to broad wealth of most inhabitants cannot be seen from outside.

Also all studies show that harsh punishments are actually detrimental to battling criminal behaviour.

  • Why would drug addicts give up their dealers? For one, they still need someone to distribute them drugs. Secondly snitching out dealers is pretty dangerous. Thirdly, why? What incentive does an addict have? Not to go to prison? That is often a better choice than staying on the streets. In prison at least you have a place to sleep, it’s warm and you get food three times a day. I don’t know the prison conditions in Canada. But where I live, I’d a hundred percent rather go to prison than stay on the street.

  • Have you even read the article? The author did not bother to read the source that claims this. And since they argue about tomato sauce, it leads me to believe this is mostly about the pizza we eat today rather that pizza in general. And the fact that tomato sauce inly became a staple of pizza is not new either. Much like how mashed potatoes with Sauerkraut is very much of German origin, it only came about in the late 18th century. Similarily with pizza. The dish existed way before tomatoes were a thing in Italy. The romans already made dishes that were very close to pizza. And since many countries have something close to pizza, I’d wager it is the recipe for the dough that is unique to pizza, not the fact that there’s tomatoe sauce on it.

Also, no where outside of the USA have I seen deepdish pizza. You can claim origin for that for all I care.

  • As a sailor (the recreational kind and former Navy) I find this particularily vile. In my experience, all boats, whether large or small, cheap or expensive, recreational or commercial stop everything they are doing when there’s a distress call vaguely in their vicinity. At the very least everyone is turning up their radio to monitor what is happening and having dedicated personell whatching the seas for the distraught vessel or event. It is espescially true if you have the equipment, the men power, the time and the money to spare going above and beyond.

In my oppinion aiding those in need at sea is the most basic and fundamental thing to do as a sailor. Those sailors that comply with orders not to help should never ever be allowed on a ship again. Despicable pieces of shit.
