  • I’m not the person you replied to, I’m looking forward to www.arcan-fe.com reaching 1.0, and it’s capable of replacing X11.

It’s not exactly the same thing as X11 or Wayland, but Bjorn Stahl has clearly put a lot of thought into it’s design and Arcan is something I actually want, which is more than I can say of Wayland. Wayland destroyed WMs and is worse in several ways, and the technical discussions around Wayland basically don’t exist. Usually it’s just “X11 bad therefore Wayland good”, or “if you don’t like Wayland than go fork X”, or “Wayland is the most used therefore is best” (which is a really stupid argument from people who aren’t using Microsoft Windows).

  • IoT could be great, but can’t be created by capitalism. If you hand e.g. Town Planning to the Ku Klux Klan and they just use it to screw over black people, that doesn’t mean town planning is bad, it means the KKK are bad and shouldn’t be trusted with jack shit.

The problem with the IoT is that the convenience/feature gains are marginal and commodifiable, whereas the gains from selling data are massive and direct to the manufacturer. Also there’s every incentive to lock down your ecosystem and avoid compatibility with competitors, and there’s no incentive to invest in security either.
