They DO NOT represent the people. Once elected, they act as they wish, how they swayed by lobbyists and their political parties. I was aghast when I heard this was to occur and I am no bleeding heart when it comes to capital punishment. This takes us back to burning the condemned at the stake or were beheaded while villagers crowded to enjoy the spectacle.
