I have a couple theater stories:

1986, The Fly. Movie starts, title sequence comes up, “The Fly”. Guy in the back of the theater lets out a huge, throaty “YEEAAHH!”. Whole theater cracks up.

1996, Independence Day opening day (July 4). Audience is totally engrossed, edge of their seats. The explosion is racing through the tunnel, the dog jumps through the door just in time, and screen goes black: “July 3”. Audience goes fucking APESHIT, the highest energy I’ve ever felt in a crowd in my life.
