there are millions of homeless animals, shelters are at capacity, and animals are euthanized by the thousands. paying money for something you can get for free is idiotic and unethical

i also feel this way about human adoption, but that’s another argument

We have one, and it’s cost us thousands in vet bills.

We have another from breeder, and it’s healthy and no issues.

So I’m not too keen on rescuing.

            Funny you should say that.

We have a “purebred” and a rescue. The former is one of the healthiest breeds and the few genetic disorders (which can affect any breed/mix) the parents were screened for. The rescue is a mix and she already had a physical disability when we got her. For all the surgeries and care she’s needed, we could have gotten a dozen well-bred dogs. And that doesn’t account for all the stress and countless several hour trips and time spent on her recovery and treatment.

I don’t really mind, we sort of knew what we were getting ourselves into. I do wish I could find the fuckers who caused her injury and then just dumped her on the street as a wee puppy. But yeah, a rescue can cost as much or even more than a well-bred breed dog.
