This is not a SFW instance. NSFW communities will be tagged, and efforts will be made to keep SFW communities clean, but proceed at your own comfort level.
Exactly, and they’ve been uncharacteristically quiet about it. You have to dig through settings for an option to link it to Facebook or Instagram, and I’ve never got a notification prompting me to. They’ve been hesitant to roll out enshittification too, so most people don’t see a reason to move. Which is why I still haven’t gotten rid of it. I can’t force everyone at once.
One thing you missed… WhatsApp took off BEFORE facebook (now meta) bought it. So it had a huge network effect while it was independent.

Whatsapp requires all of my contacts in order for me to send a message. I can’t just type a recipient in. I hate it.
I have to use it because a lot of my coworkers are in India and that’s what they use.
