I’m 90% I’m about to be laid off from my job tomorrow and this is my first time being laid off and this was my first dev job. I’ve worked here for over 7 years which is a long time at a dev job I know.
I’m just wondering what I should do in the meeting, what should I ask for? I’m having a range of emotions from fear of losing my house and health insurance (thanks usa) to relief and hope that I’m going to find something better and more fulfilling.
Thanks for reading
Edit: it’s confirmed I am getting laid off. Thanks everyone for the advice and well wishes. It really helped and means a lot.
Make sure you have the most up to date info on your company’s 401k provider and FSA/HSA providers (if you used them). Double check you can login to them, and verify there’s no ongoing fee to keep your account open. You have about 2 months to make a decision on purchasing COBRA; so you don’t necessarily need to buy into it immediately. Some enterprise software will allow you to have a free family plan, make sure you can retain access to that (1pass is an example). If your company offers and you use pet or legal fee insurance make sure you have alternatives set up. I don’t think your life insurance policy will matter.
Make sure you know when, how much, and how your last paycheck will be delivered.
Make sure you know what equipment you need to return and how (have them tell you, don’t volunteer info). If they just tell you “anything with an asset tag” ask for a list.
Make sure you’ve got any personal stuff off your work PC before the meeting, because you sure as hell can’t access it later, and log out of your accounts.
