JPEG, which stands for “Joint Photographic Experts Group” should be pronounced “JPhEG”.
Wouldn’t it be produced JoiPhEG? Because the J in joint isn’t pronounced like “jay”
GIF is pronounced with a G because that’s how most people naturally pronounce those 3 ordered lettets as a word. Additionally, it makes sense to use G because that’s what the underlying word uses. Nobody would pronounce “JPEG” as “JPHEG” naturally.
Excuse me sir that goes against my vibes, and this is the English language we are talking about, the right and wrong answers need not make any sense.

We should all be using animated avifs anyways as the only decent format with good animation support (aka actually compressing it like a video) (yes, for some reason, animated webp, despite being based on a video format, compresses animations like a series of separate pictures…)
And then we can put this debate behind us
New debate: if we’re going down the route of compressing animating images as if they were movies, why not just use a video format?
