    Marriage is until death do you part. So she was no longer a step mom at that point. She could still treat him like a son, but she’s not legally his step mom.

        Step-parents are definitely a legal concept in very many jurisdictions with regards to children - they have similar rights and responsibilities to natural parents and can often act as a parent would when interacting with services (schools, hospitals etc.), government agencies, and in general day-to-day life.

      that’s not how that works at all. source: my wife died, i fought in court for her rights, against her ex husband, and i won them. i remained a stepdad. until some years later when i adopted one of my sons.

      bio dad was such a bigot he hated when i could call him my ex husband. did it anyway.
