Psychedelics are often associated with disconnecting from reality, but a recent neuroimaging study found that psilocybin can actually make our brain activity more attuned to the world around us.

I’m not sure why this has to be said. You’re experiencing a completely altered reality. How could you not be in the moment? That’s like saying visiting a new place makes you more present.

Read the article. It’s describing how your neural pathways are activated by psilocybin, not what the subjective experience reveals.

The article bases the discovery on an assumption that I guess I’m unfamiliar with, that shrooms make your brain chaotic. In my experience, shrooms just change the way I am perceiving things. Part of the affect is that it dulls the some of the function in your brain to know what is novel and what is well understood. So it makes sense that you would be more engaged with the world around you if everything is new.
