Can we be sure if anyone actually ate them? Articles were written, sure, but IIRC there were a ton of people posting about it sarcastically and that got reported as true
Pretty sure a few people actually did have to go to the hospital over it. I think mostly by accident while trying (and failing) to not pierce them and ingest detergent.

The initial articles were about dementia patients mistaking them for candy, which is a thing that happened.
