In the early days of Android, I downloaded one of Amazon’s free apps of the day by the name of “Enjoy Sudoku.” This was the perfect sudoku app, great gui, all kinds of lessons about advanced techniques and such.
Now, on my new phone, I cannot find this app any longer. Amazon app store is gone, and it seems to no longer be on Google Play either.
Clues I’ve found are the Enjoy Sudoku website, where I learned the developer’s name was Jason Linhart.
Searching online, I can find other references to this app, as well as a download page on cnet (that links to Google Play and no longer works.)
Also, searching on Jason Linhart on Google Play turns up only Sudoku results, but I don’t think any of them are an updated version.
Any thoughts on this? It seems like it must not be maintained any longer, but I wonder if it could still run it if I could find it.
Apk Pure has been mentioned, also try APKmirror.com
After looking at the game via the link you provided, I’m gonna suggest https://f-droid.org/packages/org.secuso.privacyfriendlysudoku/ if you can’t find Enjoy Sudoku.
I have been using this sudoku for a few years at this point and highly recommend it. Solid controls, and about any options you could ever need.
Thanks, I’ll give it a look.
On the play store, it’s usually possible to download old apps even long after they’re no longer offered.
In the play store:
Click on your User icon -> manage apps & device -> manage
Then change the “This Device” selection to “Not Installed” and scroll to whatever app you had installed at one point. This is a good idea, except I never had this from the Play store, only the Amazon app store, so it wouldn’t be in the list…
Seems to be available on APK pure (both free and paid) but that depends on if you trust that site and if it can even run on modern android versions. Seems you can also find an email at the bottom on Jason’s Enjoy Sudoku website, emailing them might be an option. You could try crawling through Github, maybe there’s an old repo or something under a different name there.
It looks like I can’t download from the site directly, but need their app. Anyone using this app currently and is it legit?
Have you tried downloading it from a browser on desktop and installing via adb?
I’ve not, I’ll have to give that a try later. Good idea, thanks.
Apk Pure is one of the best sites to get any APK from, why not trust them over others. Very reliable over there years and currently.
There’s also ways to run apks in virtualized + sandboxed environments, and older android versions if needed
I’ll take a look at the apk site, thanks. I did already email Jason, but haven’t heard back yet.
Not that it’s the same thing, but I wrote a little Easter Egg into https://port87.com/ where in the settings page you can play sudoku. It’s got different levels of difficulty, and I’ve never been able to beat a hard difficulty game.
I had it forever, but it doesn’t work on later Android versions. I bought the paid version too.
Ah, then it might be fruitless trying to find it. I do recall now that it had stopped working from Amazon on modern phones.
It probably still works. Have you tried actually contacting the author if you have their contact details? You’d be surprised how often this works. They might be willing to relist it on Google or even just send you an .apk you can install. Up to you how much you trust installing a random unverified .apk but that’s a separate question
I forgot to mention that I did send him an email and hadn’t heard back yet. But, thanks, that is a good suggestion.
You got me wondering if there’s like an abandoned database full of unlisted software from defunct hosting sites out there, and what glorious mysteries are on there
Apkmirror.com and apkpure.com are sort of that.
