Forest clearance at smallest total since records began in 1988 in success for Lula ahead of presidential run-off

Two-week old news today, but I didn’t see it shared here before. I find this tremendous.

Compared to Bolsonaros drive to kill as much of the Biosphere as possible for profit, this is actually great.

I am very happy that Lula won, but he is an old man. I do not know a lot about Brazils political landscape, but it doesn’t seem that there is someone really popular that would continue his course at the moment. Does anyone know more?

I think it’s fair to say there’s no obvious candidate on the right at the moment either, so it’s not like this is a bad situation for the left in particular.

The left in Brazil should absolutely start thinking ahead, but we just came out of the elections - I think it’s fair for the rest of us to take a moment and enjoy the victory. :)

People will never know how fucked we would have been if Brazil went fascist.

“Sure, chopping down rainforest is always enticing, but there’s no infrastructure and power generation capacity for the data centers…”
