    There continues to be a bit of an issue in terminology here, in that I think many leftists would argue there’s a difference between a political ‘state’ and a ‘government’, and I’d argue you can have the latter without the former.

      I understand that a distinction can be made between “government” and “the State” within anarchist theory, depending on which definitions are being used for whatever kinds of analysis. I used the word “government” in the previous comment specifically to make “space” for the word “state”, which has a formal mathematical definition completely independent from politics. Like I’m not conflating the two related but distinct notions, I’m temporarily mapping “the State” |—> “government” so I can use the word “state” to talk about the internal variables in a generic system.
