Yeah, clearly their fault and not the millions of voters who preferred fascism or the millions of people who didn’t give a shit enough to do anything. /s
I think Donald Trump won for two very specific reasons:
When Clinton said “Pokemon go to the polls.”
When Harris said “I can’t think of anything I would change from Biden”
Like honestly I think “Clinton and Harris being terrible, unpopular candidates” is a bigger factor in Trump winning both times than anything Trump did. Trump just showed up and wins by default when the Democrats run weak candidates.
Fascism does not happen in a vacuum. It happens when the political system becomes stagnant leading voters to turn to populism for political change. The right embraced this to secure control of the state, the Democrats dug their heels in the dirt and consistently supported third way Democrats who consistently sold off social safety networks and progressive rights to secure economic benefits for the wealthy donor class.
And a lot of people who “voted for facism” are just average citizens who don’t look to deeply into politics (either don’t care, understand, or have time/energy) and just bought the right wing lie of “fix economy, gib jobs, lower fuel price, tough on crime” etc. And went with that.
Yeah, some of the voters are straight up facist, but people here are being too hard on people who’s time and energy is squashed by the hyper capitalist machine and are surrounded by propaganda
Fascism isn’t appealing unless the status quo is extraordinarily bad for the average person. Observe, the party of the status quo. Do you not think they contributed to where we are?
People saw his behavior and voted for him again. This has no explanation outside of people vote for who’s not in power every time. Could have been a monkey, but unfortunately wasn’t.
Oh yeah! I remember how after 4 years we completely got the country back on track, removed all economic/societal pressure on the average American. They must’ve just chose fascism cause they’re evil /s
Dude, people are drowning and Biden/Harris ran on “no fundamental change” in 2024. They picked the person who promised change. It’s not rocket science. Yes, people are shortsighted, but the drowning tend to be so.
Accountability for those responsible, the leaders who are failing their people and are unable or unwilling to fix the issues that are pushing people to extremism. Exactly! I’m glad we’re on the same page! Hold those bastards accountable and get them out of those positions, so that that power can be held by those who will actually act on their mandate.
My point being everyone points to them all the time. Why not people who vote for fascism or abstain?
Primary turnouts are TERRIBLE. People complain all the time but generally do fuck all to make anything different. For as much bitching as there is people could be electing more mamdanis or Aocs or whoever but they don’t.
They prefer to bitch online, to their friends, etc. and then not use the primary tool to change anything and somehow expect things to just magically get better. I have friends and family who do just this.
I’m just railing against the idea it’s all the fault of the “establishment” or whatever is the word of the day instead of allocating at least some blame to people who don’t do anything to effect their situation and expect others to do all the work.
You can’t vote in a primary for a candidate that doesn’t exist. It is expensive to run in a primary, both socially and financially. These chucklefucks know that more fairness in primaries make it more likely that they lose their jobs, so they have a vested interest in keeping primaries difficult to participate in. Oh look! That’s still on them! Amazing!
We’ve seen in the last few years that high voter turnout in primaries is caused by a highly visible candidate that people are excited about. Higher vote turnout in a primary where such a candidate isn’t running wouldn’t change anything, now would it?
Like, you keep trying to make the people who have the least control and power in this situation more culpable than the fuckers who run it. Do you understand my incredulity at such a prospect?
I’ll make you a deal. When voting is a protected, guaranteed, and useful right (everyone who can vote is able to, national holiday for voting or full mail-in, and some voting system better than FPTP) then we can hold people to full account on why they’re not voting. For now, we have MASSIVE voter disenfranchisement bordering on Jim Crow levels of “we’d rather people like you not vote” bullshit going on. Not gonna get mad at the people for not pushing through that every single time they have the ability to vote.
So yeah, you’re still holding the wrong people to account.
Because Obama said ‘Yes we can’ and then completed that sentence through his actions with ‘do nothing of substance’. Since Reagan, workers’ pay has fallen behind the wealth generated through those workers.
This has led to the biggest inequality of wealth distribution in the world.
And history shows that the people noticed. History shows that a breaking point was reached during the Obama years, because after Obama, people had so little faith in the government that they would vote for a joke candidate that promises to burn the current system down over a serious candidate that promises to guide the current system along.
The problem is that unfettered capitalism only knows one end-state: with the most wealth concentrated in the hands of the fewest people.
And the unwillingness of politicians to oppose the rich and powerful is the reason people do not trust the government anymore; is the reason why capitalism in the US remains unfettered.
And history is repeating itself in all other western capitalist nations. Far-right firebrands are on the rise everywhere.
Obama was a rhetorical master, but his policies failed to address inequality, laying the ground work for the rise of Trump. Hillary played dirty to win against Bernie and then came off as totally fake and disconnected, leading to Trumps victory. Biden failed to prosecute Trump and also failed to address inequality, allowing Trump to redeem his image. Kamala then tried to court moderates instead of promising meaningful change. The democrats as a whole have failed for decades now to address inequality and reign in the excesses of capitalism. Trump is a direct result of their failure.
Obama, Harris, Biden, Clinton – these people are not leftists. They are liberals. You must understand this. In Europe they would be considered right wing. They’re the ones fighting leftists, the leftists are just saying “hey maybe let’s not do literal Republican legislation like ACA and then celebrate.”
Pardon? Are you referring to my attempt at explaining that the above politicians not only failed to stop Trump, but are actually responsible for President Trump as a republican campaign or am I missing something?
Classic moron strategy: attack any attempt to hold the more reasonable political party accountable for their actions as sowing division.
They work for us, genius. If we don’t criticize their failures then they’ll never have an incentive to improve. They already want to sit around doing nothing and earn votes by “not being that guy”. If we don’t push them, their party will just continue following the Republicans lockstep into fascism.
The GOP changed because of a fucking astroturf strategy by the Koch Brothers in the form of the TEA party. The democrats are only now starting to change because of insurgency from the left. They’ll only continue to change if you keep the pressure on them. Refusing to court criticism will only cause them to fall further to the right, causing them to lose even more than they are right now.
“Excuse me, sir, do you support trans people?”
“Eh. I can’t say it’s my platform. I don’t hate them! I won’t carry out a giant platform to oppress them. But support them? I’ll be honest, I won’t go much further than basic rights.”
“You heard it here, folks! He’s not doggedly progressive! Our only choice is LITERAL HITLER!!”
Yep. The fact that there was never any kind of reckoning within the Democratic Party after this happened is a huge part of why I think they’re useless.
After this momentous loss the Democrats continued to fund extremist candidates around the country, boosting trumps picks because they thought despite losing they’d repeat it to help their messaging. Democrats are a main contributor to fascism
The DNC’s strategy in 2016 was to explicitly and intentionally elevate the Clinton’s vacation buddy Trump at every opportunity during the primaries because they believe he was too ridiculous and wouldn’t do well in the general election.
Do not buy it, but Donna Brazile’s book “Hacks” does offer some interesting perspective on the whole situation and how all of them are directly and knowingly responsible.
I feel like none of the people in that picture deserve to have a laugh at this. They are responsible for that orange dookie being in the White House.
Nah, take accountability.
Yeah, clearly their fault and not the millions of voters who preferred fascism or the millions of people who didn’t give a shit enough to do anything. /s

Again. No accountability. Vote for fascism for all I care.
Accountability for those responsible, the leaders who are failing their people and are unable or unwilling to fix the issues that are pushing people to extremism. Exactly! Sounds like you have a specific problem with some specific people that you’re writing large over everyone else.
I think most of the people bitching online aren’t the same people who don’t vote in primaries.
You can’t vote in a primary for a candidate that doesn’t exist. It is expensive to run in a primary, both socially and financially. I don’t think it helps anyone to absolve their complicity in not doing their civic duty. They still have a choice regardless if theyre “excited.”
There’s zero reason not to turn out. Period.
Unless people truly don’t care and it turns out, a bunch truly don’t.
I’ll make you a deal. Im quite aware of that but if doesn’t explain pathetic primary turnout and less pathetic but still pathetic general turnout.
Just agree to disagree.
Or the “I was just doing my job” ICE agents.

all of them tried very hard to keep him out.

Classic Republican campaign: get the left to fight amongst themselves.

Classic Democrat campaign; don’t prosecute the criminals because of what might come out about you/your party
LOL.
Its hard to imagine the feels could be worse than republicans.
It seems like every other day one of them is detained on sexual assault charges.
Oh, they don’t need outside interference to do that.
Better to be self aware enough to recognize flaws and correct them, or keep the status quo and repeating the same mistakes?
LOL. Electring Trump has corrected loads of flaws. Sure.
“Excuse me, sir, do you support trans people?”
“Eh. I can’t say it’s my platform. I don’t hate them! I won’t carry out a giant platform to oppress them. But support them? I’ll be honest, I won’t go much further than basic rights.”

What??? Google the pied piper strategy that Hilary employed during her campaign. She is the literal reason he won, lol.
