The Soviets were fully aware of the Nazi intent to massacre and enslave all Slavic and Soviet peoples since the publication of Mein Kampf, which describes such a plan, in 1925. The financiers of the Wehrmacht, oligarchs from throughout the western countries, were counting on a successful invasion of the USSR to recoup their investment, and the Soviets knew this as well. The Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, which consists of nothing more than a pledge of non-aggression, is often singled out despite every other power in Europe signing the same type of agreement with Germany, and despite the USSR’s proposals for an antifascist alliance being rejected by those powers beforehand. From these facts we can extrapolate that the Soviets understood the pact to be a means of delay before being invaded, nothing more. As for Poland, it was a failed state at the time and the people had been abandoned and placed at the mercy of foreign powers in any case. The Soviet presence there prior to the outbreak of Barbarossa enabled many Poles, Jews, Roma, other minority nationalities, and leftists to evacuate Poland and escape the Holocaust.

Regurgitating centrist fables spun up by 20th century cold warriors when we’re this deep into the 21st is just embarrassing. You’re indulging way more gods and masters than you realize.
