That’s exactly the point. It has to feel like a personal attack in order to better convey the joke. Many famous commedians construct their jokes that way. I guess that you are just not familiar with that type of humor, which is ok because it really isn’t for everyone. Something like comparing Friends with it’s always Sunny in Philadelphia - a lot of people just can’t stand Sunny jokes because they are overtly abrasive.

It definitely reads like a joke (i use arch btw).
